eBay stalker

I’m being stalked.

Stalked on eBay. I’m trying to sell my old digital camera and thought everything was looking sweet when someone hit the “buy it now” button.

But then I received an email from the buyer asking if I could send the item overseas and add the postage costs to the total. It all seemed ok, but then I saw that he wanted me to send it to Nigeria. Hmmmm…. I, I think I can… yes, that’s alarm bells I can hear isn’t it?

Good day seller,
Thanks for the advert on ebay, I am interested on immediate purchase, I really need this item urgently, I will be paying you via Bank Transfer, via credit card or via postal order, my main reason of purchasing this item is just because I want it sent to my son , is name is abraham bill, just left australia few days ago to meet his grandmother in Nigeria, and he will also celebrating his birthday next week so I will like to send a surprise gift to him as a birthday present, so i will like to know if you can arrange for the shipment cost, please if you can help me do it i will be very greatfull, i would have loved to send it myself but business is moving me alround the country and i dont know where i will be in the next few days, that's why i want you to help me send it down to him i'm ready to for it at any cost, kindly send me the shipment cost to Nigeria, send me your full name and Bank details, So that I can make arrangement for the payment of the immediately item.
Here is the address where i want it sent to:
Name:abrahm bill
Address:no 9 shodipe street abule-ijesha
city:Yaba
State:Lagos
Zipcode:23401
Country:nigeria
Thanks.

Robert Chambers

Emailed him back saying that there was no way and he would have to arrange to do this himself but I kept getting sob stories about how he was a “very busy businessman”.

(side note: I’m very new to ebay and not up with checking profiles or feedback)

I eventually wised up and checked his profile and saw that he was no longer registered and seeing as I wasn’t getting anywhere and it wasn’t looking like I was going to get any cash I emailed him and told him that the sale was void and I wasn’t sending the package.

So I relisted the camera on eBay, keen to seell it, and it was snapped up as “buy it now” almost straight away. I checked the profile immediately to find that this person was also no longer a registered member! Strike two!

And just like before, then came the sob story about how he was a “very busy businessman” but this time he was supposed to be in London, asking if I could send it to Nigeria and add the postage costs to the total.

Hello

I am Todd Middleby from Australia but now i am in london now for business and i will like to buy this item from you and send to my assistance who just travelled to Nigeria on a bussiness trip. The reason why i want it to be sent by you to my associate is because of the nature of my job which would not give me a chance to send it myself. I will really be greatful if you can get me the shipping and insurance cost of this item to Lagos,Nigeria via Air Mail.I would want you to give me the full information of where you want the money to be sent to, so that i can make the payment on time. And i will like to use Postal Order or Bank Deposit please tell me which payment you would like me to use please confirm on time so i can make the payment to you.
Thanks.

Frustrated?!!!

I’ve waited about a week now until I relisted it and made sure that the “buy it now” feature wasn’t available and my little friend came to visit me yet again. This time he left a comment asking if I could make the item “buy it now” so I could sell it to him.

HELLO SELLER AM INTRESTED IN BUYING THESE CAMERA AND I WILL LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU WANT ME TO SEND THE MONEY SO I CAN ARRANGE FOR THE PAYMENT OF THESE CAMERA AND HOW MUCH IS THE BUY IT NOW PRICE FOR THESE CAMERA .KINDLY GET BACK TO ME NOW SO I CAN SEND THE MONEY TO YOU AND SEND YOU THE SHIPPING ADDRESS FOR SENDING THESE CAMERA .

What’s the deal? I’ve heard of Nigerian scammers before, but I’ve never heard about them targeting people this way. It doesn’t make sense to me. I mean, why pretend to buy products off ebay’ers when they’re not going to send the item to Nigeria if they haven’t received the money?

Are they ignorant or has it worked before?

What a horror story!!
Did you report them to Ebay? They have policies in place for that crap.

My only experience is as a buyer, not a seller.
Makes me very cautious to even bother.. since it can be SUCH a bother.

I have no advice for you but I will say this. Scamming $$ isn't the only thing that imports/exports from Nigeria. I am usually pursued by cyber-solicitations for "relationships" from there as well as India. Within the first 10 sentences they're begging for my Yahoo addy, IM addy, any kind of way to hook up with me.
It actually is annoying.
I don't EVER give out that info and I TELL them that directly.
I go by a different handle, never my name and they beg for that too.
I tell them, my handle IS my name.
They say,.. OK, so, What is your name?
Never stops them. Persistent little buggers.

They're ruining your EBay experience...report them! It's not all that way.

good Luck!

Yes, this is typical, and it happens a lot with Nigeria, Ghana and Indonesia. Beware! They basically are trying to get something for nothing, and hope that your contact with them will lead you to give more and more.
