MT HOTHAM - off to the snow...

view from the balcony of our chalet

The plan was simple enough. My brother Dave and I leave Brisbane at 5am Sunday morning, fly to Melbourne and hop a bus to Mt Hotham Victoria for a week of snowboarding.

Easy? If you know us, you'll know that nothing we ever do is easy.

Dave had to work, but I had the night off so I decided to drop into work with Adam for a couple of good bye drinks. Hours later we stumbled out and after wrestling in the street over a meat pie and made it home where I had exactly 20 mins sleep before the cab arrived to take us to the airport. Needless to say I spent the entire 9 hour trip sleeping.

When I woke up on the bus, we were winding our way up a mountain road and I spotted my first glimpse of snow covering the sides of the mountains. My heart raced and I felt like I was a 7 year old kid on Christmas day waiting to open his presents.

Nothing could prepare us for the cold that cut straight through our jumpers and jeans as we stepped off the bus into minus temperatures.

no, i've never been to brazil

I was 15 the last time I went snow boarding (10 years ago), and even then I wasn’t very good so I took baby steps.

ready for our first run

Dave carves it up on his first run

thumbs up, all systems go!
