Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro

More distraction from study…

There is a long-standing rumor that Steven Spielberg saw Castle of Cagliostro when it was shown at the Cannes film festival and called its car chase one of the greatest chase sequences ever filmed, and/or called Cagliostro "one of the greatest adventure movies of all time." While this rumor has not been specifically verified, Manga Video considered it credible enough to mention on the back cover of its DVD release.

If you've seen this movie, then you know what I'm talking about.

Castle of Cagliostro is a comical action adventure from the master anime director/writer Hayao Miyazaki, who also directed the award wining ‘Spirited Away’ (among many others).

Interesting fact about this movie is that Disney’s animated movie “the great mouse detective” was accused of ripping off many scenes including the ‘clock tower fight scene’. Disney can’t seem to keep their grubby fingers out of foreign animated movies it seems – they’ve been accused of ripping off ‘Kimba the white lion’ movie for ‘The Lion King’ (Kimba / Simba).

This is one of my favourite movies of all time and a must have for any dvd collection – good news for US readers with this movie now on sale.
